W Keith Maxwell III is the founder of Spark Energy. He also serves as executive chairman of the board and CEO, after being appointed interim CEO in March 2020.

Additionally, Maxwell is the founder and CEO of Fuelco Energy, National Gas & Electric, Xcalibur Logistics, and Nu-Devco Partners.

Prior to founding Spark in 1999, he was a founding partner at Wickford Energy which sold to Black Hills Utilities in 1997. Before Wickford, he was a partner at Polaris Pipeline, which sold to TECO Pipeline in 1994.

In 2010, Maxwell was recognized as Ernst & Young’s “Entrepreneur of the Year in Energy, Chemicals and Mining.”

He has served on the board of directors at Azure Midstream Partners GP, LLC and as chairman of the board of Marlin Midstream GP, LLC. He is also a generous philanthropist with several causes close to his heart, including Special Olympics, Child Advocates, Star of Hope, Salvation Army, and Helping a Hero.

Maxwell earned his bachelor’s degree in economics at the University of Texas at Austin.
