David Bywater is the CEO of Vivint Solar, an American solar energy company. He also serves on the board of Sunrun, which acquired Vivint Solar in 2020.
Before joining Vivint Solar in 2016, he served as the chief operating officer for its sister company, Vivint Smart Home, the largest smart home services provider in North America. While there, he led human resources, customer operations, field service, and supply chain management.
Prior to Vivint Smart Home, Bywater held various executive roles at Xerox, including executive vice president, corporate officer, and COO of state government services. Bywater joined Xerox in 2010 upon its acquisition of his previous employer, Affiliated Computer Services (ACS). While at ACS, Bywater managed several business units.
Previously, he was a senior manager for Bain & Company where he assisted global clients in achieving their economic and operational potential, most commonly in the transportation, technology, and data information spaces.
Bywater currently sits on the board of Utah nonprofit, Youthlinc, an organization dedicated to developing lifetime humanitarians through domestic and international service experiences.
He earned his B.S. in economics at Brigham Young University and his M.B.A. at Harvard Business School.
