Jerry Plush is a senior financial services executive, well-known in the industry as a key strategic and operations leader, with over 35 years of experience. He currently serves as Vice Chairman, President and CEO of Amerant Bancorp, Inc. He has served on the Board of Directors of Amerant since July 2019. From 2019 to 2021, Jerry served as a partner with Patriot Financial Partners, L.P., a private equity firm based in Radnor, PA. There, he sourced new investment opportunities for the firm, and represented Patriot on the board of directors for multiple portfolio banks, specialty finance and fintech companies.

In 2018, he served as CEO for Verdigris Holdings, Inc., leading their start up through the regulatory application, organization and initial funding processes. Prior to that, Jerry served as Chief Administrative Officer of Santander US from 2016 to 2017. He joined Santander US in April of 2014 as Chief Financial Officer. 

He was a member of the Santander US Executive Committee and also served as a director for Santander Consumer USA from 2014 to 2016. He served as a director for the FHLB of Pittsburgh from 2016 to 2017.

Prior to joining Santander, Jerry served as President of Webster Bank, where he previously served in several roles, including Chief Operating Officer, CFO and Chief Risk Officer, and was a member of the board of directors.  His leadership at Webster was responsible for the turnaround of the institution while establishing credibility with a broad constituency including regulators, Wall Street, community leaders, customers and shareholders.

Prior to Webster Bank, he worked at MBNA America, most recently as Senior Executive Vice President and Managing Director for corporate development and acquisitions, where he also previously served in a number of senior roles, including as CFO of North America. Jerry was recognized at MBNA for his corporate development work and acquiring credit card and other portfolios during a period of rapid growth and change. He was a member of the executive leadership team which transformed the mono-line card issuer into a multi-national financial services provider with multiple product lines.

Jerry holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. He is a certified public accountant and a certified management accountant and is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD). He is a NACD Board Leadership Fellow and holds the CERT certificate in Cybersecurity Oversight.

He has been active in several well-known philanthropic organizations, including serving on the board of trustees of the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network, as chairman of Junior Achievement of Southwest New England, as the founder and event chair of the Children’s Charity Invitational, on the Board of Overseers for WGBH in Boston and on the board of directors of Junior Achievement of Southeastern Pennsylvania. He was recently elected to the board of directors of United Way of Miami-Dade.
