Peter M. Scott III served as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Progress Energy, Inc., a publicly held utility company headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, from 2000 to 2005 and from 2006 to 2008. He also served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Progress Energy Service Company, LLC from 2004 until 2008.
In addition to his responsibilities as Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Scott, as head of Progress Energy Services Company LLC was responsible for the human resources, information technology, external relations and supply chain functions. While with Progress Energy, he also was responsible for Progress Ventures, an unregulated energy subsidiary, and for Progress Telecom.
Before joining Progress Energy, Mr. Scott founded and was President of Scott, Madden & Associates, a management consulting firm for 17 years. His experience also includes working as Assistant to the Executive Vice President of Carolina Power and Light Company, Inc. for two years and as a Principal and Partner for Theodore Barry & Associates, Inc., a management consulting firm, for five years.
Since 2001, Mr. Scott has been a member of the RTI International Board of Governors, where he serves as Vice Chairman of the Board, Chairman of the Audit Committee, and a member of the Executive and Nominating Committees. He also is on the Board of Directors of Cleco Corporation and currently serves as chairman of its Audit Committee and on its Executive and Compensation Committees. He is a member of the Kenan-Flagler Business School of Visitors at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and St. Mary’s School Board of Trustees. He holds both an undergraduate degree and an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
