David founded Hallador in 1974, and was the Company’s CEO until 2022, when he became Executive Chairman. David active with the team and sits on Hallador’s Investment Committee. Hallador is the family office for Robert and Jane Hardie (the daughter of R. C. Hoiles). The family owned one of the three founder blocks of Freedom Communications, a diverse newspaper and television company which was sold to Blackstone in 2004. He is a Director and Founder of Hallador Energy Company (HNRG) a NASDAQ listed company; and is on the board of the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation, as well as the board of EarLens Corporation. David graduated from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Finance/Accounting, also completing the Owner/President Management program through Harvard University Business School in 1990. David and his wife Janice have three children, and when not spending time with their 5 grandchildren they enjoy themselves as active tandem cyclists and international travelers.
