Michael C. Morgan is a co-founding partner of Triangle Peak Partners, LP and serves as its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Since 2004, he has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Portcullis Partners, LP, a private investment partnership and one of Triangle Peak’s largest Limited Partners. He also serves as Lead Director of Kinder Morgan, Inc. (NYSE: KMI), which is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America, owning an interest in or operating over 85,000 miles of pipelines and 150 terminals. Mike joined Kinder Morgan at its founding in early 1997 and headed the company’s corporate development efforts until 2001, completing 23 acquisitions worth over $5 billion. He then served as President of KMI until 2004.
Mike serves as Chairman of Star Peak Energy Transition Corp (NYSE: STPK), a special purpose acquisition company identifying market-leading businesses in the energy transition formed and sponsored by affiliates of Magnetar Capital LLC and Triangle Peak Partners, LP in July 2020. Mike has served on the board of Sunnova Energy International, Inc. (NYSE:NOVA), a leading residential solar and energy storage company, since June 2019. He first joined the board of NOVA’s predecessor (Sunnova Energy Corporation) as Lead Director, representing Triangle Peak, from October 2015 until March 2016. Mike remained on the board until NOVA’s initial public offering in June 2019. He has previously served on the boards of two public energy funds affiliated with Kayne Anderson (NYSE: KYN and KYE) and on the boards of directors of Bunchball, Lytx, and SCIenergy.
Mike is a frequent volunteer at Stanford University, currently serving as the national chair of The Stanford Fund, as co-chair of the Precourt Energy Institute Advisory Council, and as a member of the Undergraduate Cabinet, the DAPER Fund, and the Parents’ Advisory Board. He previously served as an Adjunct Professor in the Practice of Management at the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University in Houston. Mike received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and both a B.A. in Economics and an M.A. in Sociology from Stanford University.
