As President of the Freight & Industrial Components Group, Mike leads a diverse portfolio of business segments that include locomotive and freight car products, maintenance-of-way equipment, heat transfer & energy solutions, turbochargers, elastomers, and aftermarket services. Wabtec’s component products support rail and industrial applications in more than 100 countries worldwide.
A native of Pittsburgh, Mike brings 35 years of executive leadership, commercial expertise, operational strategy, and project & product management experience—more than 25 of which have been in the rail transportation industry.
He began his career as a hydrogeologist, project manager, and construction manager at ENSR and Harding Lawson, two national engineering firms specializing in site characterization, regulatory compliance, and design-build construction of large-scale environmental and wastewater treatment projects. In 1998, he joined ABB Daimler-Benz Transportation (Adtranz), which later merged with Bombardier Transportation in 2001. During his tenure at Adtranz and Bombardier, he held positions of increasing responsibility, including Director of Engineering, Vice President of Project Management, and Head of the Americas Region. He oversaw the completion of numerous passenger transit projects worldwide, including the Gautrain publicprivate partnership in Johannesburg, South Africa, the Metro do Porto light rail system in Portugal, the Everline driverless rapid transit system in South Korea, and many automated airport transit networks.
Mike joined Wabtec in 2011 as Vice President of Freight Pneumatics. In 2014, he was promoted to Vice President and Group Executive of Wabtec’s global freight group. In 2017, he was appointed President of the Freight and Industrial Components Group. Under his leadership, he has spearheaded numerous organic growth initiatives, strategic acquisitions, and played a pivotal role in integrating Wabtec’s acquisitions of Faiveley Transport and GE Transportation.
Mike promotes diversity across Wabtec as the executive sponsor of Wabtec’s African Heritage Employee Resource Group (ERG) after serving in the same role with the Hispanic & Latino ERG team. In addition, he remains active in the Railway Supply Institute’s mission after serving on its board from 2019 to 2021.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science in Environmental Sciences from the University of Virginia. He also holds a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from both the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University.
Beyond his professional leadership, Mike serves as a board member for the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium and the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum.
