Adam Karon is Chief Operating Officer and General Manager of Akamai’s Edge Technology Group. In this role, he oversees strategy and product direction for Akamai’s media delivery, web performance and edge computing solutions as well as Akamai’s Intelligent Edge platform, to help businesses deliver immersive online experiences with performance, scale, reliability and simplicity across diverse application architectures.
Karon is responsible for ensuring that Akamai remains the market leader for scale, performance, reliability, ease of use and cost, and generating additional growth through innovation of new products in areas like IoT, 5G and Edge Computing. He brings more than 25 years of organizational management, business operations and technical experience to helping customers address the rapidly changing online technology space.
Previously, Karon served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Akamai’s Media & Carrier Division. In this role, he led the Division’s core functions of engineering and product development, product management, sales, channels, sales engineering, and marketing, focused on enabling today’s leading media, gaming and software companies to deliver the best possible experiences – at scale – to their customers on any device, anywhere, and helping carriers operate high-performing and cost-efficient networks. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President of Akamai’s 2000+ employee Global Services and Support Organization. In that role, he led Professional Services, Services Product, Customer Experience, Account Management, Customer Support as well as Akamai’s Managed Security Services.
Karon earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Florida State University, a Master of Business Administration degree from Florida Atlantic University, and completed executive programs at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management.
