Gwen Mizell is Senior Vice President, Chief Sustainability Officer and a member of the Executive Leadership Team for Ameren Corporation. She is responsible for developing and executing the company’s sustainability strategy and optimizing collective inclusive impacts across the enterprise.
Mizell’s expertise in the energy industry was developed through prior roles of increasing responsibility at Westinghouse Electric, Siemens, ABB, Calpine Corporation, and KEMA Consulting. She built an energy consulting firm, GSM Development, where she served as president and CEO for 10 years before joining Ameren. Prior to her current role, she held leadership positions in Sustainability, Electrification, and Innovation within Ameren.
Mizell holds a master's degree in management and public policy analysis from Carnegie Mellon University and a bachelor's degree in materials science and engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In addition, she completed certificate programs in Public Policy Management at the Harvard JFK School of Government and in Strategic Inclusion Management at Georgetown University.
Mizell was appointed to the board of directors for Gibraltar Industries in 2021. Her industry board service includes co-chairing the Edison Electric Institute's Sustainability Committee and chairing the American Association of Blacks in Energy's Sustainability and Development Committees.
Committed to building strong families and communities, Mizell pays it back by serving on several nonprofit and civic organization boards. In addition, she chairs her family foundation to close gaps for high school and first-generation college students, providing mentoring and supportive services to ensure their success.
Savoy Magazine recognized Mizell as one of 2022's Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America.
