Mr. Kenney announced his retirement as President and Chief Executive Officer in December 2021, effective April 2022. Mr. Kenney will remain non-executive Chairman of the Board until October 2022. Mr. Kenney was elected Chairman of the Board of GATX in October 2005 after having been elected Chief Executive Officer in April 2005 and President in October 2004. He was elected Senior Vice President in 2002; Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in 1999; and previously held the position of Vice President – Finance in 1998. He joined GATX in 1995 as Treasurer. Prior to joining GATX, Mr. Kenney was Managing Director, Corporate Finance and Banking for AMR Corporation, which he joined in 1990 as a principal in its Corporate Finance group. Previously he held financial positions with United Airlines and Morton International, Inc. Mr. Kenney received his BBA from the University of Notre Dame in 1981 and his MBA in finance in 1983 from the University of Michigan. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Shedd Aquarium.

In addition, the company manufactures commercial aircraft jet engines and leases aircraft spare engines; and owns and manages tank containers that are leased to chemical, industrial gas, energy, food, cryogenic and pharmaceutical industries, and tank container operators, as well as provides tank container sourcing, remarketing, and inspection and maintenance services. As of December 31, 2023, it owned and operated a fleet of approximately 148,500 railcars; 493 four-axle and 30 six-axle locomotives; 399 aircraft spare engines; and 23,931 tank containers. GATX Corporation was founded in 1898 and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.
