Parker’s career with Nike has spanned more than 40 years, beginning in 1979 when he joined the company as a footwear designer. He quickly rose within the ranks, becoming a division vice president in charge of development in 1987, a corporate vice president in 1989, general manager in 1993, vice president of global footwear in 1998, and co-president of the Nike brand in 2001. 

In 2006, he was named as the third CEO in Nike’s history. Additionally, he was appointed as chairman in 2016 and executive chairman in 2020. The former chief executive stepped down as president and CEO in 2020. 

Under Parker’s leadership, Nike’s profits increased by 57 percent and the apparel company’s market cap more than doubled since 2006. During his time as CEO, Parker publicly pushed innovation and prioritized design. Heralding back to his beginnings with the company, Parker still participates in shoe design as part of the exclusive Nike HTM Project where he creates limited edition footwear with creative consultant Hiroshi Fujiwara and designer Tinker Hatfield. 

Parker also prioritized environmental consciousness launching the first “green shoe” that adhered to the principles of sustainability in the market. He also successfully appealed to the street style generation with what have become best-selling product lines including Free Runs, Air Max, and Fly Knit. 

Since 2016, Parker has served on The Walt Disney Company’s board of directors.
