Scott Sleyster is executive vice president and head of Prudential Financial, Inc.’s International Businesses. In this role he oversees Prudential’s International Insurance segment, which develops, distributes and services individual life insurance, retirement and related financial security products to markets around the globe. Prudential’s International Insurance segment has operations and joint ventures in 11 countries across Asia, Latin America and Africa.
Since joining Prudential, Sleyster has served in a variety of leadership positions, most recently as chief investment officer, managing Prudential’s $460 billion general account portfolio. He also has served as head of the Full-Service Retirement business, and chief financial officer for the Employee Benefits Division. Additionally, Sleyster has held roles in Prudential’s Treasury, Derivatives and Investment Management units.
Sleyster has played an active role in the development of U.S. retirement. He was appointed by President George W. Bush and Congress as a delegate to the National Summit on Retirement Savings in 2002 and 2006. In 2003, he testified to the Congressional Committee on Education and the Workforce at a public hearing on the Pension Security Act. In 2005, he was named a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging. In 2009, he testified before Congress on the Reform of the Over-the-Counter Derivative Market.
Sleyster is a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-Japan Business Council (USJBC) board of directors and chair of the USJBC Financial Services Committee. He is also committed to improving the quality of education in the Newark Public School system. Since 2012, he has served on the board of directors for North Star Academy, one of New Jersey’s first charter public schools.
He earned an MBA from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in finance, with distinction, from the University of Missouri. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts.
