Roger P. Schrum is Vice President of Investor Relations and Corporate Affairs for Sonoco Products Company (NYSE: SON). In this position, he is responsible for the $5.5 billion-revenue global packaging company’s investor relations, marketing and brand communications, digital communications, executive communications, sustainability, community relations and public affairs. He is a member of Sonoco’s Executive and Management committees and serves as the Chair of the Sonoco Foundation, the Company’s philanthropic arm. He is the Company’s global spokesperson and reports to the President and Chief Executive Officer.

Schrum has more than 35 years of business management experience for five Fortune 500 energy and manufacturing companies. Prior to joining Sonoco in 2005, Schrum was Vice President, Human Resources and Communications for NorthWestern Corporation (NYSE: NWE) from 2001. He also served as General Manager of Marketing Communications and Public Affairs for SCANA Corporation (NYSE: SCG) from 1993; Director of External Communications for Ashland, Inc. (NYSE:ASH) from 1987; and Manager of Financial Communications for Diamond Shamrock Corporation (prior to its acquisition by Valero Corporation) from 1980. Schrum was Business Editor of the Amarillo (Texas) Globe-News from 1979 and a writer for the Pittsburg (Kansas) Morning Sun.

Schrum holds a BS in Education from Pittsburg (Kansas) State University and attended the Executive Development Program at Indiana University Graduate School of Business. He is a graduate of Leadership Kentucky and Leadership South Carolina. He is a 25-year member of the National Press Club (Washington, D.C.), the Public Relations Society of America, International Association of Business Communicators and National Investor Relations Institute. Under his leadership, Sonoco was recognized by Institutional Investor Magazine for having the Best Investor Relations program in the Packaging Sector. Schrum also was listed as one of the top Investor Relations professionals by Institutional Investor.

Schrum was appointed by Governor Nikki Haley to serve on the South Carolina Technical System Board of Directors in 2016 is the board’s Vice Chairman. He served as Chairman of South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance and also serves on the board of directors for the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce; the South Carolina AgriBusiness Alliance; North East Strategic Alliance; the YMCA of the Upper Pee Dee; and the Byerly Foundation of Hartsville. He twice served as the Chairman of the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce and the Darlington County Economic Development Partnership and served on the advisory board for MUSC’s Medical Associates.

Schrum resides in Hartsville, S.C., with his wife, Connie. They have four grown children and five grandchildren.
