Dr. Y.C. Ku is Vice President of Nano Patterning Technology at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (TSMC). Dr. Ku is responsible for overseeing the strategy and development of critical process technologies that enable the next generation of chips. 

Dr. Ku’s expertise spans the full spectrum of lithography, including cutting-edge EUV lithography, immersion lithography, mask making, computational lithography, OPC, resist materials, and photo process development. Dr. Ku has more than three decades of practical experience in the semiconductor industry, and he has been instrumental in transitioning groundbreaking lithography tool and process innovations from the research and development phase into high-volume manufacturing. He joined TSMC in 1999 and was appointed as Director and Senior Director of Nano Patterning Technology in 2015 and 2023, respectively, successfully driving the evolution across a long range of process nodes, from 0.13 micron to the most advanced 1.4 nanometer technologies. Currently, his team is leading the lithography development for the A14, A10, and beyond process technologies. 

Dr. Ku received the “National Outstanding Manager Award” and “National Industrial Innovation Award- Innovative Trailblazer Team Award” in 2013 and 2020, respectively, to recognize his role in advancing cutting-edge lithography technology. 

Before joining TSMC, he held key lithography R&D roles at both Motorola and UMC. Dr. Ku holds 30 patents globally and has published 20 papers on advanced lithography. Dr. Ku received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from University of South Florida of the United States, and earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology of the United States.
