As Chairman of The Villages Health (TVH), Dr. Elliot Sussman has been leading the creation of TVH since 2010. His leadership has made the idea to bring better health care to The Villages® come to life. He helped recruit a talented team of leaders to build an innovative health care system that has attracted top physicians from all over the country to relocate to The Villages.
Dr. Sussman has been instrumental in establishing relationships with health care providers, insurance companies, community organizations, and local leaders to ensure patients who choose TVH have access to the medical services they need. He continues to work with leaders both locally and nationally and the team at TVH to enable the organization to grow, innovate, and transform how patient care is delivered.
Prior to joining TVH, Dr. Sussman served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) from 1993 through 2010. Under his leadership, LVHN evolved into one of the nation’s leading community based academic health care systems.
He served as Associate Dean of the Biological Sciences Division and the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago from 1988 to 1992. Previously, he held the role of Associate Professor of Medicine and Executive Director of Clinical Practices at the University of Pennsylvania. He also served as the inaugural Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Medical Colleges and as Chair of the Council of Teaching Hospitals.
Dr. Sussman was a Fellow in General Medicine and a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania. He trained as a resident in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Sussman earned an MD from Harvard University, an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, a BA from Yale University, and has been awarded four honorary doctorates. He is actively involved in the national health care community and serves on numerous boards.
Dr. Sussman lives in The Villages® and spends his free time in New York City and traveling to visit his family. He is an avid art collector and enjoys going to museums and theater. He is the proud father of two children and five grandchildren.
