James “Jim” Walton is the youngest son of Walmart founder, Sam Walton. The Waltons are the wealthiest family in America, and as of April 2021, Jim Walton was ranked the 19th-richest person in the world.
He joined the family business shortly after earning his bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville and spent four years running Walmart’s real estate operations. He then moved on to join the family’s holding company, Walton Enterprises, where he would later become president.
In 2005, he took his late brother John’s place on Walmart’s board of directors, where he served until 2016 when he was replaced by his son, Steuart.
Walton also serves as chairman and CEO of Arvest Bank Group, a regional bank owned by the family holding company. Additionally, he serves as chairman of the board of Community Publishers, which publishes newspapers in Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.
Walton has made significant financial contributions to political causes at both the local and national level. Additionally, he recently donated $1.2 billion of Walmart shares to charity, joining the ranks of other business leaders who have pledged to commit their wealth to philanthropy.
He resides with his family in Bentonville, Arkansas.
