Eric Yuan is a Chinese-American billionaire and the founder of Zoom, the leader in modern enterprise video communications.

In 2011, Yuan started Zoom with a mission of delivering happiness and bringing teams together in a frictionless video environment. The idea was first born while he was still living in China, attending university, and looking for a simple way to connect with his girlfriend (now wife), Sherry, who was a 10-hour train ride away.

The company’s video-first unified communications platform continues to transform how leading global enterprises interact. Under Yuan’s leadership, Zoom had one of the most successful tech IPOs in 2019. Usage of the platform grew around 1,900 percent in 2020 as schools, universities, and workplaces worldwide shifted online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before Zoom, Yuan served as corporate VP of engineering for Cisco, where he directed the company’s collaboration software development. He was one of the founding engineers and VP of engineering for Webex. From 1997 to 2011, Yuan increased his team size from 10 to over 800 engineers globally and contributed to revenue growth of more than $800 million.

Yuan has been recognized as one of Business Insider’s Most Powerful People in Enterprise Tech, and in 2018, he was named the #1 CEO of a Large U.S. Company by Glassdoor. He was also named Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year in Northern California in the software category. In 2019, he was added to the Bloomberg 50 as a leader who changed the game in global business. Additionally, Yuan is listed as an inventor on 11 issued and 20 pending patents in real-time collaboration.

In addition to his work with Zoom, Yuan served as a member of the Forbes Technology Council from 2017 to 2019.

Yuan holds a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics from Shandong University of Science and Technology, and a master's degree in geology engineering from China University of Mining and Technology in Beijing. He has also completed a Stanford University executive graduate program.

It serves individuals; and education, entertainment/media, enterprise infrastructure, finance, government, healthcare, manufacturing, non-profit/not for profit and social impact, retail/consumer products, and software/Internet industries. The company was formerly known as Zoom Communications, Inc. and changed its name to Zoom Video Communications, Inc. in May 2012.
