Tim Steffan joined Comstock in early 2018 as Executive Vice President of Asset Management, Leasing & Development. Mr. Steffan is responsible for management of the asset management, leasing, and development operations of the Company. As a member of Comstock’s Executive Management Committee, Mr. Steffan has played a key role in the development and execution of Comstock’s strategic plan and the recent reshaping of its management team in support of the 2018 transformation of Comstock’s operations from for-sale homebuilding to commercial real estate development, asset management, and real estate related service provider. While leading by example, Mr. Steffan’s results oriented management style inspires teamwork, creativity, integrity, and a collaborative work environment.
Mr. Steffan brings more than 20 years of prior asset management and real estate development experience to Comstock and has a proven track record of expertise leading to substantial growth in strategy, execution, leasing, executive and team leadership, financial analysis, due diligence, development, property management and marketing. Mr. Steffan has significant experience managing a variety of asset types and large-scale portfolios including; retail, office, multifamily, mixed-use, and hotel properties in multiple key markets throughout the U.S. including NYC, LA, Chicago, Washington DC, Phoenix, Atlanta and others. Mr. Steffan has a demonstrated ability to identify opportunities to create new lines of revenue and communicate strategic vision while promoting operational excellence.
Prior to joining Comstock, Mr. Steffan held various senior executive and management level positions with multi-billion dollar, publicly traded, commercial real estate companies. Mr. Steffan was President & Head of Eastern U.S. Division with RPAI, INC. (NYSE: RPAI) from 2015 to 2016, an owner/operator of open air and mixed-use retail real estate portfolios consisting of 30 million square feet of assets across all major markets. From 2007 to 2015, Mr. Steffan held various executive management positions with Macerich (NYSE: MAC), a Fortune 500 owner/operator of enclosed regional malls and urban mixed-use portfolios consisting of 50 million square feet of assets across all major markets. From 1992 to 2007, Mr. Steffan held various management positions with JMB Realty/Urban Retail Properties, a NYSE listed company (privatized in 2004), an owner/operator of a national portfolio of enclosed malls consisting of 50+ million square feet across all major markets.
Mr. Steffan is a licensed Real Estate Broker and Property Manager in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC, a Certified Shopping Center Manager (CSM & former Board Chair), a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, an Executive Board Member of Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce, a Board Member of Visit Fairfax, and a Board Member of The Georgetown Partnership BID.
Mr. Steffan graduated from Syracuse University in 1987 with a B.A. with dual majors in Economics & Psychology. Steffan earned a Master of Business Administration Program at Northeastern University, Boston, MA in 1993 and earned his MBA – Real Estate & Urban Development at American University – Kogod School of Business Administration, Washington, DC in 1996.
