Mr. Johannpeter holds a bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). In addition, he has studied Operations Management at the University of London (Canada) and Executive Development at Penn State (United States) and completed an Advanced Management Program at Harvard (United States).

He has worked at Gerdau for 40 years and was its Chief Operating Officer between 2007- and 2012. In December 2017, he resigned his executive roles at the Gerdau Executive Committee (Comitê Executivo Gerdau, CEG) where he used to be in charge of the Brazil Long Steel Business Operation and Global Engineering, Industry, and Health & Safety Processes. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gerdau S.A. (2015–2020), and Metalúrgica Gerdau S.A.(2016–2020), a publicly held holding company with a controlling interest in Gerdau S.A. He currently holds the positions of (i) Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gerdau S.A. and member of its advisory committees and (ii) Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Metalúrgica Gerdau S.A.

It also provides semi-finished products, including billets, blooms, and slabs; common long rolled products, such as rebars, wire rods, merchant bars, light shapes, and profiles to the construction and manufacturing industries; drawn products comprising barbed and barbless fence wires, galvanized wires, fences, concrete reinforcing wire mesh, nails, and clamps for manufacturing, construction, and agricultural industries; and special steel products used in auto parts, light and heavy vehicles, and agricultural machinery, as well as in the oil and gas, wind energy, machinery and equipment, mining and rail, and other markets. In addition, the company offers flat products, such as hot-rolled steel coils and heavy plates; and resells flat steel products. Further, it operates mines that produce iron ore located in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. The company sells its products through independent distributors, direct sales from the mills, and its retail network. Gerdau S.A. was founded in 1901 and is based in São Paulo, Brazil.
