With over 25 years of experience as a tech visionary and leader, McKinnon’s roots are in enterprise software and cloud transformation. Before Okta, he served as senior vice president of development at Salesforce, where he grew its team of 15 people to over 250, and increased daily transactions from two million to more than 150 million.
McKinnon launched his career in software development at PeopleSoft in 1995, where he spent eight years in a variety of engineering and leadership positions.
He is a regular contributor to business publications, such as Forbes, Fast Company, Fortune and the Wall Street Journal Accelerators. He also sits on the board of Family House, a non-profit providing temporary housing to families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at the University of California-San Francisco Children's Hospital.
McKinnon earned his bachelor’s degree in management and information systems from Brigham Young University and his master’s in computer science from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo.
He currently lives in the Bay Area with his family.
