Christopher “Chris” Rondeau is the CEO of Planet Fitness, a role he has held since 2013. He started at the company as a front desk worker in 1993 and eventually worked his way up to the executive suite.
Raised in Massachusetts, Rondeau started working at age 14, bussing tables and washing dishes to supplement his allowance. He ended up dropping out of college to work at Planet Fitness—a risky decision that paid off in the end.
Rondeau started with the company just a year after it was founded by Marc and Michael Grondahl. Over time, he was promoted from manning the front desk and mopping floors to various management roles, and by 2003, he was named chief operating officer. 10 years later in 2013, he took on his current position as CEO.
Throughout his tenure with the company, Rondeau has played an important part in refining the business’ disruptive wellness model that favors the everyday gym-goer to a seasoned buff. Planet Fitness has become one of the fastest-growing health clubs in the country with an increasing global foothold as well. As of 2020, around four percent of the United States’ population are Planet Fitness members.
The company’s low-cost/high-value model and lean operating system have forever changed both the fitness and franchising industry. Planet Fitness has received numerous accolades including, Franchise Times’ “Top 200,” Forbes’ “America’s Best Franchises,” and Newsweek’s “Best Customer Service,” among others.
Rondeau resides in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire with his wife, Michelle, and their four children.
