Andy Sullivan leads the U.S.-based businesses of Prudential Financial, Inc. comprising PGIM (the Global Investment Businesses of Prudential Financial), and the U.S. Insurance & Retirement Businesses (Group Insurance, Individual Life Insurance, and Prudential Retirement Strategies), which together had more than $1.5 trillion in assets under management as of December 31, 2021. Sullivan also oversees Assurance IQ, a direct-to-consumer platform that transforms the buying experience for individuals seeking personalized health and financial wellness solutions.
Before assuming his current role on December 1, 2019, Sullivan was CEO of Prudential’s Workplace Solutions Group, which comprises Prudential Retirement and Prudential Group Insurance.
He joined Prudential in 2011, with responsibility for the Group Insurance underwriting, claims and service organizations. Prior to joining Prudential, he served as a senior vice president with CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, where he was accountable for the individual and senior business segments.
Previously, Sullivan spent eight years with Cigna. While there, he held a number of senior leadership positions, and led merger and acquisition initiatives for the health care, international and group insurance divisions. Earlier in his career, Sullivan held management roles at Diamond Technology Partners and DaimlerChrysler.
Sullivan earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, graduating with merit from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He began his naval career as a nuclear submarine officer. During his tenure with the Navy, he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for superior leadership and performance on board the USS Nebraska.
Sullivan holds an executive MBA from the University of Delaware. He serves on the board of directors as chair-elect designate for the American Council of Life Insurers and the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors.
