Michael A. Bell, PE was appointed senior vice president and general manager, Optical Communications in April 2020. In this role, Bell has end-to-end responsibilities for the Optical Communications Market-Access Platform, including Optical Fiber and Cable (OFC), Optical Connectivity Solutions (OCS), and Optical Commercial Operations (OCO).

Bell joined Corning in 1991 as a process engineer for the Telecommunications Cable Plant in Hickory, North Carolina. Subsequently, he held a variety of positions in manufacturing and engineering. Since 2001, Bell established a new Japanese equity company as program manager, consolidated two plants into the current Hickory Cable Facility as plant manager, led the Corning Cable Systems (CCS) SAP implementation, and served as Americas Cable and Connectivity Regional Manufacturing Manager.

In 2010, Bell established Optical Communications Global Product Line Management, creating differentiated optical solutions through “next practice” processes. Bell was appointed senior vice president and general manager, Optical Connectivity Solutions for Corning Optical in 2012 leveraging capabilities to create integrated solutions, improve reach, and penetrate emerging markets.

Prior to joining Corning, Bell served as a Submarine Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy.

He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from West Virginia University.
