Senior Vice President & General Manager, Optical Communications of Corning

Michael O’Day was appointed Senior Vice President and General Manager, Optical Communications, in September 2024. In this role, O’Day has end-to-end responsibilities for the Optical Communications Market-Access Platform, including Optical Fiber and Cable (OFC), Optical Connectivity Solutions (OCS), and Optical Commercial Operations (OCO).

O’Day joined Corning in 1998 with Siecor, which later became Corning Cable Systems (CCS). He worked in both the Strategy and Marketing organizations for CCS through 2003 and helped lead Corning’s entry into the Latin American cable and connectivity business. From 2004 to 2010, O’Day served in CCS’s Optical Connectivity Product Line Management organization, helping launch CCS’s fiber-to-the-home product lines in support of Verizon’s FiOS initiative.

In 2010, O’Day was appointed Program Manager for Corning’s IDAS Wireless Program, which culminated in the acquisition of MobileAccess in 2011 and the formation of Corning’s wireless business. In 2017, O’Day became the head of Product Line Management for Optical Connectivity Solutions.

Prior to his current role, O’Day served as Vice President of Corning Optical Communications (COC) Technology and Program Management Office, leading the disruptive innovations programs and the subsequent adoption of those innovations by customers in support of COC’s growth strategy.

Prior to Corning, O’Day served as a Field Artillery Officer in the U.S. Army.

O’Day holds a Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a Master of Business Administration from Minnesota State University (Mankato).
