Fred Luddy is an American entrepreneur and the founder of ServiceNow and Enterprise Software, Inc. ServiceNow provides customers with a simple, internal IT service management platform.

Luddy held the role of CEO from the time of the company’s founding in 2004 until 2011, when he stepped down to serve as chief product officer, a role he held until 2017. He stepped up to his current role as chairman of the board in 2018.

Around the time he was founding ServiceNow, Luddy had lost his nearly $35 million fortune when his former employer, Peregrine Systems, Inc., filed for bankruptcy. He started the company just two weeks before his 50th birthday.

Luddy took ServiceNow public in 2012, after turning down a $2.5 billion acquisition offer at the advice of Sequoia Capital. As of 2018, the company ranked among Forbes’ Most Innovative Companies, with over 6,000 employees, 4,000 customers, and a $30 billion market cap.

850 of ServiceNow’s customers are included on Forbes Global 2000 list of the world’s largest public firms. Over 500 of its customers spend north of $1 million annually with the company.

Prior to founding ServiceNow, Luddy served as Peregrine’s chief technology officer. Before that, he had founded Enterprise Software and worked for Boole and Babbage, Inc. and the Amdahl Corporation.

Luddy grew up in Indiana, and he attended Indiana University for a while before dropping out to pursue computer programming.
